Forecast: Winter is here, but Fair skies are coming
As night comes so very early on these December evenings, last summer’s Scott County Fair seems so long ago. Although we remember the warmth of July when it was still light long into the evening, our thoughts are on the coming holiday season. Still, your Fair staff are already preparing for next year’s summer fair. The Ferris wheel cars have been removed and wrapped in warm blankets, so next year they may provide comfort to Fairgoers when they take them to the stars. The carousel horses are getting a well-deserved break, as they hunker down for a long winter’s nap. Indeed, all the animals that occupied the barns at the fairgrounds in July are home in their own barns, coops, and stalls, safe and warm from Old Man Winter and his friend Jack Frost. But the animals will be back next year, maybe even with a few new faces showing themselves for the first time in the Miracle of Birth Center. Even though it might not seem like it, winters don’t last forever; once again next summer, we will have vendors offering their flavors, musical acts filling the air with their renditions, and roaming performers entertaining us, as we stroll along on a warm summer evening. Scott County Fair set for July 27-31
It just might be that time of year where even cold-weather enthusiasts have had enough and are ready to think about summer… no better time to get thinking about and working on some projects to enter at the Scott County Fair (July 27 – 31). Now is the time to check the Premium List on the website (scottcountyfair.com) for the Creative Arts categories that you can enter at the Fair. Here is a list of the categories: Artwork; Crafts; Sewing; Quilts; Embroidery; Photography; Plants and Gardening—Fairy Gardens; Writing; Woodworking; Wine and Beer making; Canning; and Baking.
Remember to join Scott County Agricultural Society if you have not done so. As a member, you will be given a season’s parking pass for the full five days of the Fair. Membership also entitles you to attend the Scott County Agricultural Society’s annual meeting and dinner which is held in late November or early December, and includes voting privileges. Ag Society welcomes and greatly appreciates volunteers to help with all aspects of the County Fair as well as Autumn Fare.

The Scott County Fairgrounds is available for rent for weddings, reunions, employee picnics, birthday parties, graduations, et cetera. The beautiful gazebo is very popular for weddings and the grandstand and new restored carousel are also available for events. We work to accommodate your dreams and wishes!
